Old Henderson is where the city began. It grew up around the Basic Magnesium plant during World War II, and the original townsite near today's Water Street District still has some of the oldest homes in Henderson. The surrounding 89015 and 89002 areas, including neighborhoods near Boulder Highway and the Black Mountain area, add homes from almost every decade since.
Water damage in older Henderson homes
- Old galvanized and cast-iron plumbing. Homes from the 1940s through the 1960s may still have galvanized supply lines or cast-iron drains, which corrode and crack with age.
- Sewer line backups. Older laterals are more prone to root intrusion, cracking and sagging.
- Roof leaks. Older roofs, flat sections and patio additions are common entry points during monsoon storms.
- Older building materials. Homes built before 1980 may contain asbestos in some materials or lead-based paint. Testing may be needed before demolition, and a reputable provider will raise it.
Rental properties are common in this part of town. Tenants should tell the landlord or property manager right away, and owners should call their insurer. Fast drying limits the damage either way.
